Platinum Blonde Lavender

Platinum Blonde Lavender

Curious plant varieties sometimes have curious names, as in this case. The common name for this lavender, Platinum Blonde, refers to the unusual, striking light foliage on this lavender. Look closer for a moment and you’ll see it’s also variegated, or a mixture of light and dark on the same leaves. The Latin, scientific, name for this English lavender carries the variety designation “Momparler,” after the Momparler nursery where it was discovered. Platinum Blonde was a  random, magical botanical finds, which Spanish grower Juan Ismael Momparler Albors plucked from a field of thousands of plants. He successfully cultivated this bit of serendipity into the variety we now have on the median. Like many lavenders, it has purple flowers that pump out a cloud of sweet fragrance. Enjoy!
